CRUTEM3 Time-series generator

To make global or regional time-series from CRUTEM3, with error estimates, use this script (~hadobs/Monitoring.operational/crutem3/user_tools/source/time_series/make_hadcrut3_ts.perl). It makes simple area averages from the CRUTEM3 PP files (best-estimate and all the uncertainty components) and produces a time series file with uncertainties in this format.

The script takes 8 arguments (all optional):
ArgumentEffectDefault
--start_yearFirst year in the time-series1850
--end_yearLast year in the time-series3000
(So ends in last year with data).
--min_latMinimum latitude of region to be averaged-90
--max_latMaximum latitude of region to be averaged90
--min_longMinimum longitude of region to be averaged-90
--max_longMaximum longitude of region to be averaged90
--annualIf 'true' average the monthly data to annual values. If 'false' leave as monthly.true
--smoothSmooth the monthly or annual data with a binomial filter with the specified number of terms. --smooth=21 is most frequently used.unset

For example, to get a smoothed annual northern hemisphere series for the 20th century use:

make_crutem3_ts.perl --start_year=1900 --end_year=2000 --mun_lat=0 --annual=true --smooth=21
